History

Originally an independent monarchy, Norway was invaded and successfully annexed by Sweden in early 1744. After the fall of King John IV of Sweden, and the rise of the Kalmar Union the same year, Norway remained an integral region of the Kalmar Union, along with two other Nordic countries, Sweden and Finland. Following the end of the Russo-Swedish War of 1744, Denmark, previously a kingdom in partnership with Norway, became under control of the British Empire.

After the recent dissolve of the Kalmar Union and the return of the monarchy in 1745, Queen Elizabeth I of Sweden returned Norway to Danish rule, and thus, British rule. In addition to the country of Norway, Britain also gained its principle overseas territory, Iceland.

Today Norway is a protectorate of Great Britain, via the Kingdom of Denmark
