  Official Teaser

Desistance is an upcoming Minecraft RPG server created by Ned EdgewalkerJeremiah Garland and Benthamic. The server will most likely be on version 1.11.2 unless plugins for 1.13/1.14 become readily avaliable before release, and will be hosted in Toronto, Ontario. Desistance is expected to be released in early-to-mid July 2018. Production officially began on April 24, 2018. With Benthamic's addition to the staff in late April, Desistance has become the fifth server created by the team of Ned & Benthamic.

About Desistance

Lore

"In the year 851, the world of Serpens was unexpectedly shaken to its foundations by a flood that now covers the entire planet. The loss of human life was immense, with at least 97% of the global population perishing in the flood. The cause of the flood is still unknown today, fifteen years after the fact. Since the flood, Serpens has been ravaged by many different monsters who have built fortresses of their own, and occasionally they attempt to attack the few humans that remain on Serpens."

Locations

"The only remnants of human life reside in cities that were one way or another lucky enough to be untouched by the flood. Except for one. The floating city of Antiva is a true bastion of human life, and is the only metropolis left on the planet. The survival of the human race is almost entirely dependant on the survival of Antiva."

More locations will be announced in the near future.

Antiva

"The floating city of Antiva was constructed in the year 586 after twenty years of work. Antiva was conceptualized and constructed as a collaborative effort by the global superpowers to create a city that could be the centre of human civilization, regardless of nation. When the flood came nearly three hundred years after the city was finished, Antiva itself was barely effected. Though a mountain once sat next to Antiva, now an island does. A sacred temple sits on this island, along with the Summer Palace, which is home to only the most important events in in the world.

Antiva was important on the world stage before the flood, but now the power of the city is unquestioned. Antiva boasts the most powerful military currently remaining on the world, and is the world centre for every important industry remaining on Serpens.

Antiva is led by King Gareth I. Gareth inherited the throne at the very young age of 14 after his parents perished in the flood. Gareth is known as a compassionate, benevolent King who is beloved by most citizens of Serpens. Despite his successes in transforming Antiva into the power it is, Gareth has struggled to truly wield his power to its full extent, with many critics citing his compassion as one of his biggest flaws."

Skyhold

"The city of Skyhold lives up to its name, literally. Constructed in the year 237, the fortress now known as Skyhold sits atop one of the highest mountains on the planet Serpens, which itself only barely escaped the flood. Skyhold was abandoned for at least four-hundred years prior to the flood. Citizens of the cities below Skyhold fled up to the fortress once the flood began, finding the fortress in a state of disrepair. Fifteen years after the flood, however, Skyhold has been reconstructed into a fortress worthy of praise from the King of Antiva.

Skyhold is well supplied with farms of their own, though they obtain most of their goods and materials from trade with Antiva. Skyhold is served by a respectable militia that is good enough to keep the city safe from any monsters that may try to attack."

Main Quests

Coming Soon

Side Quests & Dungeons

"Outside of Antiva, many creatures and monsters hostile to humans have made their way up to the surface from the very depths of the world, and pose a threat to humanity. Unbeknownst to almost the entire civilian populace, the Antivan military has to execute operations almost daily to ensure the safety of Antiva, but some monsters are too much for even the might of the Antivan military. Because of the constant attention required to succeed in these operations, many civilians require assistance that the military or otherwise does not have time to provide."

Within Antiva, there will be numerous sidequests for players to complete, some of which will require the player to travel outside of Antiva. Besides sidequests, there will be at least 30 custom made dungeons placed around the world for players to complete, some of which can be discovered through sidequests. Sidequests will offer a variety of different rewards, but most notably in-game currency, experience points and occasionally some weapons or other items. Many side quests may be given to players in main quests.

Classes

Classes on Desistance are chosen by the player prior to them logging onto the server for the first time. There are four classes to choose from, with varying quest types and roles in the world of Serpens.

The final two classes will be announced in the near future.

Warrior

As a warrior, you will serve on the frontlines, protecting the human civilians of Serpens from harm. Eventually, with hard and efficient work, you may find yourself rising in the ranks to become one of the most important people in all of Serpens.

The warrior class will generally have missions and sidequests that focus mainly on combat against monsters throughout Serpens, whereas missions that are driven by roleplay and conversation will be more limited for this class. Warriors will not be given a housing choice at the beginning of the game (instead residing with other members of the military) and will given $1200 to start with, the least of any class.

Diplomat

Diplomats in Desistance can, in many ways, have the biggest effect on the world of Serpens. As a diplomat, you will climb the ranks of the Antivan government and be a valued voice in the ear of the King of Antiva.

The diplomat class will almost exclusively have missions and sidequests that focus on dialogue and roleplaying with the characters of Serpens, wheras missions that are focused on combat will be few and far between for this class. Diplomats will be given four different houses to choose from at the start, varying in cost. Diplomats start with the most money of any class, with $10,000 at the beginning of the game.

Plugins

Bold indicates the plugin is confirmed to be on Desistance. If not bolded, the plugin is currently under consideration to be included.
